This silky and tasty homemade Nutella recipe is a sweet and healthy twist on the classic, and it's definitely worth a try!
Its texture is smooth, and it tastes very rich without having as high a calorie content as the store-bought kind.
This way, you can enjoy as much chocolate spread as you want without overthinking it.
I can guarantee that everyone will enjoy this one, unless they are not a fan of Nutella!
🌟 Healthy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
I wasn't intentionally trying to make a low-calorie Nutella when I tested this recipe. However, regular Nutella contains sugar and palm oil, which aren’t vegan-friendly or suitable for people with dairy allergies, unlike this homemade spread, which can be sugar-free and rich in healthier fats, B vitamins, and Vitamin E.
We all fell in love with Nutella at a young age, and it has become a staple in every home. Now, you can enjoy it without a guilty conscience.
🍽 What You'll Need to Make Best Nutella Recipe?
If you’re vegan, you can definitely find some gianduja brands considered as vegan Nutella, such as Nutiva and Justin’s, but those tend to be pricey.
This homemade spread is budget-friendly, and you have the freedom to add any components you’d like.
For the milk : If you use almond milk or any non-dairy milk like coconut milk, this recipe would be soy-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and gluten-free.
The sweetener : Choose any all-purpose sweetener of your liking, such as granulated sugar, coconut sugar, or date sugar. For liquid sweeteners, you can use honey, maple syrup, date syrup, or agave.
To make this into a keto or low-carb Nutella recipe: Substitute the sugar with a sugar-free sweetener like erythritol, xylitol, allulose, or stevia. This contains only about 0.1 net carbs per serving.
The hazelnuts : Raw hazelnuts are best, and you can easily find them online, at Costco, or in the bulk aisle of a health food store. You can also use unsalted roasted hazelnuts to make things easier.
If you can’t get your hands on hazelnuts, replace them with almonds, which are just as delicious.

🔪 How To Make Homemade Nutella?
Prep all your ingredients and preheat the oven to 400°F.
Line your baking pan with parchment paper. Spread out the hazelnuts and place the pan on the middle rack of the oven to toast for 6 to 8 minutes.
To remove the skins, rub the toasted nuts in a paper towel or a cloth. This doesn’t have to be perfect.
Use a food processor or a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix to turn the hazelnuts into a creamy butter.
Add in the rest of the ingredients and blend for a couple of minutes on high until you achieve the consistency of Nutella.
🧊 Homemade Nutella Storage Instructions
Using oil instead of milk allows you to store this at room temperature in an airtight container for up to two weeks. You can also keep it in the fridge for two months.
If you use milk, I recommend keeping the recipe in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks.
If you still have some leftovers after this time, you can freeze it. It will lose a bit of its texture, but it will still be delicious.

💭 Is Homemade Nutella Healthy?
Classic Nutella isn’t primarily made of hazelnuts and cocoa powder; it’s actually sugar and palm oil, along with whey, vanillin, skim milk, and soy lecithin.
This Homemade Nutella recipe is lower in calories even when using regular sugar, and it’s also lower in saturated fat.
