🍽 What You’ll Need For Simple Teriyaki Sauce

  • Soy sauce – The base of the sauce. Low-sodium is best for better control over the saltiness.
  • Sesame oil – Adds that signature nutty taste. A little goes a long way!
  • Brown sugar – The key to that rich, caramelized sweetness.
  • Garlic – Fresh is best, but garlic powder works in a pinch.
  • Ginger – Fresh or powdered, depending on what you have on hand.
  • Cornstarch – The secret to a perfectly thickened sauce.
  • Water – Helps adjust the consistency.
  • Apple cider vinegar – Adds a slight tang to enhance the overall flavor.

🔪 How to Make Teriyaki Sauce

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together all the ingredients.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a bit of water, then slowly add it to the sauce while stirring. Let it simmer until it thickens.

💭 Pro Tips For The Best Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

Cornstarch is key – It thickens without clumping, unlike flour, which can leave a grainy texture. Plus, it’s gluten-free!
Go for low-sodium soy sauce – It helps control the saltiness and lets you adjust the seasoning better.
Sesame oil = flavor boost – If you don’t have it, olive oil works, but you’ll miss out on that deep, toasty flavor.
Sesame seeds make a difference – They’re optional, but they add a nice finishing touch!
